Mauricio Cortez, Director of Finance, InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa
Mauricio Cortez, Director of Finance, began his InterContinental Hotels Group career path in the late 1980’s as a Budget and Systems Manager at the Hotel InterContinental in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  He then moved to Miami, Florida where he assumed responsibilities as Systems Manager at the Hotel InterContinental Miami and ultimately assumed the role of Director of Finance at the InterContinental New Orleans where he recently received the prestigious award of Controller of the Year 2007. Cortez has demonstrated strong, effective financial leadership throughout the years and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa.  He fluently speaks Portuguese, Spanish and English.

Q:  What was the number one reason you decided to join our team at InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa?

A:                I joined InterContinental Montelucia because it is a fantastic opportunity to participate in the opening of not just another resort, but an amazing project with a superb spa, residential villas and fabulous grounds. Having the opportunity to work at the first major Resort for InterContinental Hotels & Resorts in the U.S. is a great professional challenge and I look forward to working toward the success of this extraordinary resort. 

 

Q:  Where did you grow up?

A:                I grew up in Niteroi, a beautiful city across the bay from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

 

Q:  What are you passionate about?

A:                I am very passionate about my family, my work, and, like a true Brazilian, I’m passionate about soccer!

 

Q:  How did you get started in the hotel industry?

A:                I started out working for a company in Brazil that developed software for hotel automation.   

 

Q:  Is there something that you’ve dreamed of doing?

A:                I’ve always dreamed of learning to scuba dive. 

 

Q:  If you could plan a month-long trip anywhere in the world, where would it be?

A:                I would love to take a month and tour the south of Europe visiting Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece.
